Nakshatra System of Ashtottari Dasha
The nakshatra system for the Dasha, unsurprisingly, starts from Ardra with the deity of Raudra for the Sun and Punarvasu with the deity of Aditi for the Moon. These are in the Rashi or Gemini lorded by Mercury. Mercury is associated with devi Lalita, and the exaltation point of Rahu representing the peak of Manifested Maya and the cause of Rebirth. Marking a fitting start to the Dasha system.
Aditi is Devi herself coming into her manifested creation to propagate and nurture life within. Lord Brahma develops the very fabric of the creation from Aditi who later goes on to inhabit the creation as the forms of Prajapati’s consort to create the races of Men, Devas, Rakshasas, Nagas and other beings. The outcome of Sun and the Moon coming together is seen from Venus, starting in Uttra-Phalguni, a Nakshatra lorded by Aryaman and signifying the fruits on marital bliss. In the case of Devi and Bhairava coming together, this fruit is the Jiva-Atma.
This relationship of the Sun, Moon and Venus and its movement is further captured in the Sudarshana Chakra dasha where the movement at the three levels of Lagna (Venus), Chandra Lagna (Moon) and Surya Lagna (Sun) is observed. The timing of the activation of various Yogas in the chart are measured by this system and is intimately tied to the Baladi Avastha and the Svara Chakra of the vowels. Therse two dasha systems are intimately linked by the phenomes.
As the Malefic and Benefic are assigned 4 and 3 padas of the nakshatras, we observe the following
There are 7 complete nakshatras for one cycle of durations associated with the 8 grahas
There are a total of 28 Nakshatra padas in one cycle aligned with a 28 Nakshatra system
There are 4 cycles of 7 nakshatras required to complete the 28 Nakshatra mandala.
This is the story of the Jiva-atma (Venus) with the Knowledge (Sun) and Support (Moon) from Father and Mother.
The Sun, Moon and the Venus are the only grahas that get association with one Nakshatra/Deity
Saturn is the only graha that is balanced across the Gandantha as the Karaka of the system
Evolution of The Jiva-atma
Tracing Sun, Moon and Venus through the 4 cycles of the 7 Nakshatra groupings revels the spiritual secret hidden in the system. The journey that the Jiva-atma goes from
For the Jiva-atma, upon creation, it is born crying. With the support of the knowledge from Father, Karaka Surya, as Rudra and physical matter from Mother, Karaka Moon, as Aditi the Jiva-atma acclimatizes to the manifested world and begins its exploration
In the next cycle, the now adolescent Jiva-atma seeks to explore the world of Maya with the aid of the power of Hasta for the knowledge of creating from father and the creative energy from mother in the form of Vishwakarma. This research is the skill indicated by the energies of Moola.
In the next cycle, having gained the skill of creation, the Jiva-atma now seeks to flourish and reach its full potential with the power of Vishnu and the force of Apas. This is the tapas that the Jiva-atma seeks to perform enabled by Ajaikapada.
Finally, having experienced everything that the material manifestation has to offer, the Jiva-atma seeks to now realize its immortality and head back to source with the help of the knowledge of transcendence from Ahirbudhnya and the nourishment of Pushan. This Immortality is encapsulated by Soma.
From the deeper understanding of the 28 Nakshatra system in relation to the Ashtottari dasha, we can see that the dasha system has the applicability in understanding the spiritual evolution and the corresponding processes of individuals and serve as a valuable roadmap. This is why Ketu is also a karaka of this Dasha system for the spiritual dimensions along with Saturn for the physical dimensions of life.
