Ashtottari Dasha Construction

It is with the generous blessings of Devi that we have this knowledge available to us. Very little has been made available in the public domain of the deep knowledge encoded in the Tantra Shastras. Reading this comes with the responsibility to utilize the knowledge with utmost care and devotion.

To help explore the nature and composition of this dasha system and to shed some light on the creation of ‘us’, the Jiva-atmas, let us lean on the teachings of the handbook of the Shaktas, the YOGINĪHRDAYA.

Traditional Depiction of the Sri Chakra

Depiction of the various Yoginis, Shaktis and Devatas presiding over the different aspects Manifestation as codified in the Shi Chakra:

Sourced from the Swami Nityananda’s Traditions

Before we start exploring the hidden knowledge in the Tantric text, we have to have a basic foundation in a few of the chakras in Jyotish shastra. The first of which is the akachatapayadi chakra that helps us associate the 51 characters or sounds in devanagari with the Grahas.

akachatapayadi Chakra

To connect the Sri Chakra knowledge with the Jyotish model for the Karakas, we can leverage the akachatapayativarga that associated each graha with a set of vowels, semi vowels and consonants.

Now, let us start with the innermost core of the Sri Chakra. The first Charka of the Navayoni is formed by the intersection of 10 Triangles giving us the 8 outer triangles and the 1 inner triangle for a total of 9 Triangles or Yonis. Thus, the Navayoni. The Bindu is at the center of the innermost downward triangle.

The NavaYoni or the 9 triangles

We can now look at the corresponding shlokas in the Tantric text to start associating the aksharas associated with the chakras with the corresponding Grahas leveraging the akachatapayadi chakra. The first secret is hidden in the shloka 10 and 11 as given below

Shloka 10 & 11

From the void letter अ, and from that which ends by emission, that is from the bindu, vibrating consciousness whose supreme nature is light, and which is united with the flashing flow of divine power, appears the throne of the bindu, which is the birthplace of the flow made up of the three mātrikas. It then assumes a threefold aspect.

The Yoginīhrdaya explains that there are specific sounds associated with this Chakra as follows

  • The Sound associated with the Bindu are the first and the Visarga: अ, & अः

  • The Sound associated with the Nava Yoni are the 9 Vowels:

    • आ, इ, ई, उ, ऊ, ऋ, ॠ, ऌ, ए, ऐ, ओ, औ, अं

Swara Chakra

Each phoneme maps to a Rashi (अ, for Aries etc.…) with the hidden ṛ, ṝ, ḷ secretly mapping to the 7th house of Mahavidya and the 8th for occult knowledge [ऋषि]. For this first time showing us that the source of the Mahavidya(s) is in the 7th house as it is the ऋषि that sit with the mother divine absorbed in her knowledge

This brings us to the next chakra in order that is the Inner 10 Triangles also know as the antar dashāshra

Shloka 15

The first chakra of ten triangles brings forth the energy associated with the ten phonemes, from the one (YA) followed by Śakti (RA) of the remaining nine

antar dashāshra

The sounds associated with the 10 yoni’s in the inner 10 triangles are the 10 Semi-vowels:

य, र, ल, व, श, ष, स, ह, ksa, jna

These are the अस्त्र or the weapons of the devi.

The vowels are constructed from the shiva tattva and their combination with the semi-vowels give us the various beeja mantras from which flows all of manifestation. Thus, they are also the key to understanding the very creation.

We can then observe that these particular sounds associated with the two chakras of the Navayoni and the antar dashāshra are attributed to the Sun (Vowels) and the Moon (Semi Vowels) based on the akachatapayadi chakra. The Sun (Bhairava) and Moon (Devi) coming together creates the various Titthis with the 16 (15 + Visargha) vowels resenting the 16 phases of the moon. Each Titthi, and the position of time there in, holds the reason or objective for the creation of the particular Jeevatma.  We can thus write our first equation to assign duration to the first step of creation to bind it with time as

Sun + Moon = Y

Where Y is the total duration in years associated with the grahas in the Dasha system. This equation represents the coming together of Bhairava (Sun) and Devi (Moon) to create the spark (Venus) that is us. Thus, we can also write the equation as

Sun + Moon = Venus

or

Venus = Y

bahir-dashāshra

The next chakra is the bahir-dashāshra or the outer 10 triangles

Shloka 16

The first set of the chakra of ten triangle are supporting the emanation of the ten subtle and gross elements. These are associated with the ten phonemes beginning with krodhisa.

The Yoginīhrdaya provides the 10 specific sounds associated with the outer 10 triangles given as those that are beginning with krodhisa (Ka). These 10 phenomes contain the 5 mahābhūtas and the 5 tanmātras correspondingly.

         ख         ग         घ         ङ

च         छ         ज         झ         ञ

From the akachatapayativarga we can then observe that these particular sounds are attributed to the Mars (mahābhūtas) and the Venus (tanmātras). The spark, transmitted by the physical father, is fused with the seeds of the physical body, provided by the physical mother, to bind the soul to the body. This is then further bound to time and thus we have the framework for our second equation.

Mars (from Mother) + Venus (from Father) = Body

or

Mars + Venus = X

Manu Ashra

The next set are the 14 triangles known as the Manu Ashra and provide the core ingredients of creating the physical world and the means to interact with it

Shlokas 17 and 18

The next chakra is made up of energies that have connected outcomes that are representative of the organs of awareness . This is represented by the phonemes from khecari to jaya. Also it is bringing forth a fiery energy like that of the luminescence of Raudri

The Yoginīhrdaya provides specific sounds associated with the 14 triangles given as those that are beginning with khechari and ending with Jaya. To decode this, we can associate the khechari mudra that has the tongue rolled up to the sound associated with the tongue touching the upper palate or ‘ta’. Jaya is decoded as the Bhagavat Gita or Bhagavatam or ‘Bha’. This gives us the following phonemes representing the organs of awareness, the 5 sense perceptions, or the Jnyanaindrias, the 5 actions, or the Karmaaindrias, and the 4 components of the Mind; Manas, Ahamkara, Buddhi and Chitta; the blessings of Raudri.

          ठ         ड          ढ          ण

त         थ         द          ध         न

प          फ         ब

From the akachatapayadi chakra we can see that this set is associated with Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn correspondingly. The Last akshara is deeply connected to Saturn as the Karaka of the dasha system and connects the created objects with the ability to interact with and experience them in the manifested world, forming the root of creating and experiencing our Karmas.

As the (em)Body(ment) is Maintained and Destroyed by Jupiter and Saturn. Based on the principal of conservation of energy we can write the equation as

Saturn + Jupiter = (em)Body

or

Saturn + Jupiter = X

Saturn as the Karaka for Longevity, and of this Dasha system, we assign it the base value of 10

Saturn = 10

The manu-ashra chakra is quite literally describing the construction of the human body based on genetic structure. We can thus also derive a second equation from this dimension as

Saturn + Jupiter + Mercury = 46 (number of chromosomes)

or

Jupiter + Mercury = 36

The final set of the chakras are coming into the realm of Maya or in Jyotish parlance, Rahu. These are the asta-dala, sodasha-dala, and Bhupura.

asta-dala, sodasha-dala, Bhupura

Shloka 19

The square shape is representative of the form of Devi’s energy know as Jyesthā and the three concentric circles, represent a form of Devi’s energy know as Vāmā

The final segment of the chakra is all about the devi as Maya; agitating, deceiving and concealing the true creation. This is where her shaktis of Vama and Jeyshta are active with her will and knowledge. This is the realm attributed to Rahu. This is all the individual phonemes mixing and merging causing the words, sentences, paragraphs, books that continue to propagate Maya. To complete the picture, we can see that the essence of what remains before and after the physical body are the net new Vasanas, samskaras, learning [Mercury] and the desires [Rahu] accumulated in this incarnation. We can thus write the final part of the equation as

Mercury + Rahu = X

The very structure of the solar system, especially the relation of the luminaries in relation to earth is set with the ratio of 108. The ratio of the diameter of the moon to its distance from earth to the diameter of the Sun and its distance to Earth, governed by 108. The length of the Dasha system describing the duration of physicality of life in this particular solar system is also set to 108.

Aggregating all the pairs we get the following final Equation.

[Sun + Moon] + [Venus + Mars] + [Saturn + Jupiter] + [Mercury + Rahu] = 108

or

3X + Y = 108

Giving us the equation for Physical Life on the Planet!
