Shodashottari Dasha
Amongst the various Dasha systems that Rishi Parashara shares in the Hora Shastra, the Shodashottari data is mentioned in just a couple of shlokas. A conditional dasha system of 116 years that is quite rare in its utilization and even rarer in the availability of information about it.
The description makes this a Phalita Dahsa and not an Ayur Dasha. There is also some confusion on the interpretation that, is the Surya and Chandra Hora referring to the 15 degrees of the sign or is it referring to the specific hora of the day. The former would make this dasha very common and thus it is the later that makes it specific and conditional. This is also confirmed by the hora calculation for the day and the order that it provides us with.
He then states that starting from Pushya nakshatra, to count the number of nakshatras to the Janama Nakshatra. Divide this number by 8. The division by 8 is indicative of the 8 grahas that the assignments are made to. He also states that Rahu is not included in this system.
Rishi Parashara then gives us the order of assignment of the remainder, to the Sun, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Ketu, Moon, Mercury and Venus. The duration of the Dashas of the above planets are given as 11, 12, 13, 14, 15,16,17 and 18 years in that order.
This seems rather straight forward and simple on the surface, as it’s just numbers from 11 to 18 in order after all. However, to really understand the why behind the order and the durations assigned, we must dive into the depths of the very mechanisms of creation herself.
