Dhi - The Gifts of Jupiter

There is no such thing as a basic concept. The very life we are is a hyper fractal of basic concepts. The very basic concept evolves, grows, and transforms into the complexity that we observe as the manifested world around us. From the gas clouds of the nebulas, millions of light years across, to the intricate flower petals in our gardens, the same basic principles are manifesting in various magnitudes of scale and complexity.

Thus, it becomes paramount for us to continue to peer into these fundamentals and watch them unfurl into insights that were hidden in plain sight.

Let us explore the syllable dhi (धी). A supremely important construct and a concept that unlocks a certain level of unfoldment of the principals. There are four vitally important qualitative aspects of dhi (धी) depicted as the 4 petaled flower, through the grace of Jupiter’s blessings. that we can access

4 dhi of Jupiter

1. Bud-dhi

2. Shu-dhi

3. Vri-dhi

4. Sid-dhi

4 Dhi of Jupiter Manifested

This flower, when corelated to the Yantra that describes a human life, the natal chart or the Janama Kundali, corresponds to the 4 quadrants or the Kendras of the chart. This is primarily why the Kendras are considered so vital to the quality of life we experience.

Planets that are placed in these 4 positions in the chart have the power to bestow or hinder these qualities. However, there is another powerful quality that this correlation unfolds for us.

The directional strength, or Digbala, of planets are connected to these blessings of Jupiter and determine which type of blessing to we get to experience either through us or through those people in our lives indicated by such planets.

  • Jupiter and Mercury get their directional strength in the Lagna. This is the unfolding the Bud-dhi aspect of Jupiter’s blessings to the fullest granting intellect and wisdom. If the Lagna lord is associated with such a Jupiter or Mercury, the native themselves gets to enjoy this blessing else it reflect the wisdom and intelligence of the people indicated by those planets in the chart for the native that is guiding them. Regardless of where this is coming from, this is one of the foremost blessings in the chart, as a blessed Lagna can help the native overcome many challenges in life. Afterall, it is only with purified intellect and wisdom that we can solve our problems gracefully.

  • Moon and Venus, of Jala tattva, get their directional strength in the 4th house and thus deliver the blessings of Shuddhi or purity of the heart. Moon by itself in the 4th has the capacity to provide the native with a pure heart however, Venus in association with the Lagna lord or the Moon with provide this quality to the native else would signify the quality of the people indicated by the lordship of Venus in the chart. This concept can be further extended to say that benefic planets in the 4th house makes one pure of heart. This is the crucial first step for the spiritual unfoldment in the path of moksha. Without a clean 4th house, we must not wander the 8th and 12th.

  • Saturn (and Rahu) get their directional strength in the 7th house and thus shine the quality of Vriddhi or longevity. The Vayu planets are responsible for the prana of the individual and are controlling the lifeforce and thus the longevity of the individual on the planet. The Lagna lord or Pranapada lagna associated with a Saturn (or Rahu) in the 7th would offer strong prana to the individual. Longevity on the planet has many other factors to consider.

  • Sun and Mars, the Agni grahas, get their directional strength in the 10th house and bring forth their dhi quality of Siddhi or perfection in actions. The 10th house is the house of karma and the actions we perform, the actions performed in alignment with dharma as determined by the Agni grahas yield the perfection in those actions. Lagna lord or the atmakaraka associated with them creates a highest caliber karma yogi. The Lagna lord and 10th lord association is a specific yoga called Simhasana yoga that confers high position in work and more traditionally, denotes Kings.

Hare Rama

A wonderful way to start exploring the principle is to analyze the holy chart of the avatars as they hold in them the sum totality of the insights we need. For this purpose, let us take the chart of Lord Sri Rama.

We can observe that in the Lagna we have the Exalted Jupiter in cancer with directional strength, Digbala, in conjunction with the Lagna Lord the Moon. Clearly as per the principle, Lord Rama demonstrates the perfection of buddhi, or intellect and wisdom, himself. However, in this case, the source is from the exalted Jupiter as the 9th lord, depicting his Guru. It was under the tutelage of RIshi Vashishtha that the unfoldment of the perfection of the intellect occurred for Lord Rama especially in those 21 days where the Yoga Vashista was imparted.

We can also observe the 10th house with a Digbala and Exalted Sun. He is himself the Sun avatar of Vishnu and an exalted Sun as the 2nd lord, indicating the kula, clearly marking him as a king of the Suryavanshi dynasty. Lord Rama, dispensed his duties in the highest and strictest alignment to his Dharma leading to absolute perfection in actions.

An incident from the Ramayana that is relevant here is one that happens with Lord Hanuman, depicted by Mars in Lord Rama’s chart, also in exaltation as the 5th lord, his foremost disciple. Lord Hanuman is cursed to forget his Siddhis. It is only when in service of Lord Rama (the Sun) that Jambavan reminds Hanuman (Mars) of his potential does he regain the abilities of his Siddhies. This is why Mars gains its directional strength in the 10th house. It is the Sun, the generator of the Agni tattva, that is enabling Mars to attain its perfection hence the Siddhi of Mars in the 10th house must be seen in relation to Sun in the chart for its support and activation.

May we be so fortunate as to receive the grace and blessings of Brihaspati
